The best cameras for vlogging in 2023: from mirrorless cameras to compact cameras
The best cameras for vlogging are portable, have a front-facing display, 4K video, and stabilization for steady video
The best vlogging cameras are designed with a new style of content creation in mind. They’re for creatives who need to capture a wide variety of subjects quickly and easily, in a wide variety of different conditions.
However, bloggers come in many shapes and sizes, from adventurous thrill-seekers to travel shooters and more traditional filmmakers. That is why we have selected a selection of different vlogging cameras to cover the entire spectrum.
It’s been pretty tough getting to our final list, and though we’ve put what we think are the best off-roaders near the top. Everyone’s needs and expectations are different, so we encourage you to check out the full list. We all like them for different reasons!
We also thought long and hard about including the new Panasonic GH5 II – a replacement for a camera that has become a legend in handheld cinema – but has decided to stick with its stable full-frame companion, the Lumix S5.

Most people associate vlogging with portable, video-focused mirrorless cameras, but the range of video content and styles people want to create is expanding at breakneck speed, so we’ve adapted and expanded our guide to include a wider range of camera types.
With this in mind, we have added a section for action and compact cameras. For some types of filming, even the smallest mirrorless cameras can be too heavy, too expensive, and perhaps too fragile. A compact or action camera may not give you the same high-end controls as a mirrorless camera, but you’ll be able to go places a mirrorless camera can’t.
What should the best cameras for vlogging include?
- Stabilization – If you plan to use your camera primarily on a tripod or with a gimbal, stabilization won’t matter too much. However, if you want to use your camera to shoot video handheld, stabilization helps achieve smoother shots.
- Tripod: Any tripod will be fine if you’re just shooting static shots, but if you want to start incorporating motion, a tripod with a fluid video head will be much better.
- Audio – If you want to record high-quality audio, you’ll need to invest in an external microphone. On-camera microphones often don’t have the best audio quality, aren’t very directional, and pick up the wind much more easily.
- External Recorder: Most cameras have a recording limit, so if you try to record for more than 30 minutes, the recording will stop. External recorders not only provide a larger screen so you can see what you’re recording, they offer more storage and allow you to capture higher-quality video.
Interestingly, more and more manufacturers are creating vlogging kits and vlogging accessories like these. We recently reviewed the Nikon Z6 II Essential Movie Kit, for example, which comes with a SmallRig camera case and Ninja V recorder.
The best vlogging cameras in 2022 MIRRORLESS CAMERAS
Mirrorless cameras are the best for serious vlogging. They have more powerful video features, combined with the versatility of interchangeable lenses, giving you the ability to change your focal length, as well as complete control over creative aspects like depth of field.
We’re not ruling out DSLRs like the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 / Canon EOS 250D, but for now, mirrorless cameras definitely take the lead when it comes to vlogging.

Best Vlogging Cameras in 2023

It’s lightweight yet powerful, making it perfect for vlogging and photography.
La Fujifilm X-S10 it’s such a great camera in our eyes that it even ranked first in our best Fujifilm camera guide. It may not have the same external exposure controls as higher-tier X-series cameras, but it’s certainly not an entry-level kit.
While the switch to a more conventional mode dial might annoy Fujifilm fans, the in-body stabilization, build quality and handling certainly make up for it.
The combination of its foldable screen, 4K video capabilities, and IBIS make this camera ideal for vlogging. It also takes great photos, so even if you want to use it for other types of content creation, you can. Considering the features it offers, size, quality and handling,

2. Sony A6400
Best Cameras For Vlogging Overall
No products found.
SPECS
- Type: Mirrorless
- Sensor: APS-C
- Megapixels: 24.2 MP
- Lens mount: Sony E
- Screen: 3-inch tilting touchscreen, 921,000 dots
- Viewfinder: Electronic Continuous shooting
- speed: 11fps Maximum video
- Resolution: 4KL
It’s still a brilliant camera for vloggers, but the design could do with an update.
Not too long ago, any camera with a 180-degree front screen was instantly dismissed as a ‘selfie’ camera, but the rise of blogging, vlogging and Instagram has brought a video to the fore, and the front screen of The A6400 is ideal for one-handed videographers who want to talk directly to the camera, although a vari-angle screen like some of its rivals would be even better.
The A6400 is also a great camera for stills. We’re not all that interested in the design, which hasn’t changed much since the original A6000 model, but it’s not a deal-breaker given how good Sony is at the video.
It’s not just the 4K video that makes this camera stand out as a vlogging tool, but its state-of-the-art autofocus system, and especially its Eye-AF performance. Since the Sony A6400 came out,
3. Panasonic Lumix G100

SPECS
- Type: Mirrorless
- Sensor: Micro Four Thirds
- Megapixels: 20.3
- Lens mount: MFT
- Screen: 3-inch vari-angle, 1,840,000 dots
- Viewfinder: EVF, 3.69 million dots
- Maximum continuous shooting speed: 10 fps
- Maximum Video Resolution: 4K UHD

Panasonic’s cute little vlogging camera is also pretty good at stills
Vloggers and creatives will enjoy the simplicity of the Lumix G100. It makes it easy to capture high-quality video and still images with its accessible button layout.
Even people who are not interested in the technical aspects of capturing great-looking videos will be able to get results with this camera.
There’s an inherent risk of oversimplifying things when creating a camera for social media creatives, but Panasonic has avoided that pitfall with the Lumix G100.
By giving it a decent viewfinder and ‘proper camera’ ergonomics, Panasonic has given the G100 an edge in a highly competitive market. This is a great camera to start with if you’re more interested in vlogging than regular photography, or both! Nevertheless, it has no in-body stabilization and there is a crop factor when shooting in 4K. It’s cute, compact, convenient, and pretty cheap.

SPECS
- Type: Mirrorless
- Sensor: Full frame
- Megapixels: 24.2 MP
- Screen: 3-inch vari-angle, 1,840,000 dots
- Viewfinder: Electronic, 2360k dots
- Lens: L-mount
- Continuous shooting speed: 7fps
- Video: 4K UHD uncropped up to 60 / 50p
- User level: intermediate / expert
A serious piece of kit considering the price, great for video and stills.
The Lumix S5 might be the biggest size for a vlogging camera, but with a full-frame sensor, 6.5 stops of image stabilization, and a weather-resistant body, we think it deserves this spot.
Although the Panasonic GH5 it’s newer, you get a lot more camera for the money with the Lumix S5 and it’s much better in low light. It has a fully articulating screen that makes it perfect for self-recording, over 14 stops of dynamic range, and a 4K video.
Perhaps the only downside to this powerful camera is that it uses contrast AF rather than phase-detection AF, which is often less responsive.
If you want a camera that’s good for both stills and video, the Lumix S5 offers 96MP high-resolution RAW + JPEG capture. If you’re a serious filmmaker, perhaps the Lumix GH5’s features will tempt you more, but we think the Lumix S5 gives you more for your money.

- Maximum Video Resolution: 4K 30p
- User Level: Enthusiast
Honestly? We are a bit lukewarm, but the A7C has positive points
Although the Sony A7C and Sony A7 IIIThey are now very similarly priced, the articulating screen on the Sony A7C makes it much better for vlogging.
It’s not Sony’s most exciting camera release, but its hands-on performance and excellent AF system make it a good camera.
The Sony A7C lacks the same quality feel as other A7 cameras, but it is a bit lighter and therefore might appeal more to someone who vlogs on the go.
Its full-frame sensor also means it’s very good in low light and it has 5 stops of in-body stabilization, so even if you’re shooting handheld you’ll be able to achieve relatively smooth video.
It is by no means the cheapest camera on the list and if you have plans to buy an external monitor, I would probably go for the Sony A7 III. Nevertheless,

4K video, flip screen and great stabilization – perfect for vlogging
The third version of the camera that put Olympus on the mirrorless map is a really great option for vlogging.
It doesn’t have the 4K 60p capability of Panasonic Micro Four Thirds rivals like the Lumix GH5 II, but 4K 30p is plenty for most vloggers, and the Olympus wins for autofocus, using on-sensor phase-detection AF at the site of DFD contrast.
Panasonic still uses the AF system. For regular filmmaking, this is less of an issue (since “proper” videography needs to be done with manual focus), but vlogging leaves you at the mercy of the camera to keep you in focus, and Panasonic’s DFD Contrast AF is prone to pulsations, hunting and change of priorities.

Light and versatile and great for non-4K needs
The Canon EOS M50 Mark II isn’t the wholesale upgrade over the original Canon EOS M50 that many expected, but it is an excellent mirrorless hybrid camera that works well for stills and video.
Its 4K capabilities come with a number of caveats; Canon’s brilliant Dual Pixel AF is replaced by contrast-detection AF when not shooting in 1080p, and shooting in 4K also results in a significant crop factor. Therefore, we cannot recommend this camera if you intend to shoot a 4K video.
However, suppose you want to shoot 1080p and are looking for a powerful, easy-to-use body with excellent autofocus that’s comfortable with running and shooting videography, vlogging, and creating for TikTok and Instagram.
In that case, the M50 Mark II is the one for you. element. Canon certainly offers more powerful APS-C cameras, like the Canon EOS M6 Mark II, which deliver superior results in both stills and video (especially 4K). However, the party trick of the M50 Mark II is its perfectly adjusted price-performance ratio. It’s an affordable, powerful, compact and easy-to-use camera ideal for travel and everyday photography, as well as all kinds of content creation.

COMPACT / ACTION CAMERAS
We generally recommend a mirrorless camera for more serious vlogging, but there are a couple of compact cameras that are especially interesting thanks to their smaller size, front-facing screens, and video capabilities. Beyond that though, there are some terrific action cameras that can take your vlogging in a whole new direction.

Sony has adapted its RX100 design to make a brilliant vlogging camera
While the new Sony ZV-E10spiritually replaces it, the ZV-1 is still a great option that doesn’t require you to worry about changing lenses.
Some may dismiss the ZV-1 as just another variant of the Sony RX100, but it’s much more than that. The sensor and lens may look familiar, but the body, controls, audio, and rear display are all new, different, and brilliantly optimized for vlogging.
There are a couple of drawbacks. The big change in minimum focus distance when zooming is annoying and the SteadyShot Active stabilization didn’t work very well for us, but the autofocus is exceptional and the ZV-1 is a joy to use, especially since here at last it’s a vlogging camera that is really designed specifically for vlogging, right down to that vari-angle rear screen and supplied mic windscreen, which really works brilliantly. It’s’Sony RX100 VII camera, despite offering a better proposition for bloggers.

A flip screen, a decent 1-inch sensor, and a compact body, ideal for vloggers
When the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II proved popular with vloggers, Canon leaned heavily towards it and gave us the Mark III, a compact that improves on it in all the right ways to provide the perfect compact vlogging solution.
It has 4K video without cropping, an external microphone port, and even lets you stream live to YouTube. There’s also the option to extract high-quality stills from 4K footage (useful for those miniatures), and the excellent autofocus system works well with the 24-100mm (equivalent) f/2.8-1.8 lens and CMOS sensor.
1-inch stacking to produce video of enviable quality. It even allows you to shoot vertical videos that are very phone-friendly and Instagram stories, an incredibly useful feature. still good,

- Storage: MicroSD
- Dimensions: 124.7 × 38.1 × 30 mm
- Weight: 117g
It’s a camera and gimbal all in one, and it fits in your pocket!
If you want the best tool in its class when it comes to combining stable video and pocket size, nothing beats the DJI Pocket 2.
If you get it as part of the Creator Combo, the external audio and ultra-wide lens are great additions, and it’s basically a pocket study.
Noise handling is probably the Pocket 2’s weakest area, and it struggles with highlights, though in most well-lit environments the convenience, versatility and stabilization it offers can’t be overstated. Better yet, gimbal stabilization provides a level of smooth running and gun-style video that is difficult (or impossible) to achieve with a larger camera.

The ultimate action camera, now better value for money
Welcome to the newest and best GoPro. Though released without much fanfare and looking identical to the Hero9 Black in almost every way, the Hero10 Black is nonetheless a significant upgrade.
It’s all due to the use of the new GP2 processor, which drives a fast user interface, doubles frame rates and powers the best image stabilization technology yet.
The larger 2.27-inch screen and handy front-facing display is what makes this camera perfect for vlogging, especially if you like to blog on the go, on a mountain, or even while riding your bike!
Highlights are its 5.3K 60p video capabilities and GoPro’s new HyperSmooth 4.0 video stabilization. It works in all modes, and coupled with its 23MP camera, it produced the best photos and has the best low-light performance of any GoPro.
Content can be transferred super-fast via a cable and it has an auto-upload feature that automatically adds photos and videos to the cloud as it recharges. Some upgrades aren’t that exciting, but the Hero10 Black was definitely worth the wait.

An intelligent and endlessly creative 360 camera with easy AI editing
360 cameras are really awesome to use, especially since it doesn’t matter where you point them.
But to display your video, you need a VR playback device, like a smartphone or YouTube 360 mode. The alternative is to edit your spherical footage into a regular ‘flat’ video where you can choose where to point the camera AFTER you’ve captured the video, but that takes a bit of editing effort.
The One X2 is a truly impressive action camera that utilizes its 360º lens not only for VR but also a plethora of creative editing modes for widescreen video, the One X2 consistently produces luscious video and photos. It takes time and patience to master, and its processing-intensive application demands the latest phones,
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A VLOG CAMERA
1) LCD screen that can be rotated to the front
A fully articulating screen is essential if you want to record yourself talking to the camera. It removes any guesswork involved and ensures that the shot is framed correctly.
Most of the time you can get away with just having a tiltable screen, but vlogging is the one area of photography and videography where a front-facing screen is a must.
2) AF system with effective tracking
If you plan on recording yourself as you walk away, you’ll need a sensitive AF tracking camera. Since you won’t actually be able to change the focus point during filming, you’ll want to use Eye or Face AF so the focus is always on you. This is where cameras with phase-detection AF are particularly good, as they are much more consistent with moving images, unlike contrast detection, which has a tendency to seek and drift.
3) Video 4K
You can probably get away with a camera that doesn’t have 4K capabilities, however, technology is advancing so fast that it can also future-proof your purchase.
Even if you shoot in 4K, you can upload in 1080p to save time, but at least you have that option. You can crop to 4K, reframe your video, and still output at 1080p for more flexibility in getting a camera that’s 4K-ready. For more information on post-production.
4) Excellent quality of still images
If you’re a vlogger, you probably have an Instagram account and want to be able to capture still images and videos. No one wants to carry around two cameras if they can get one that does both jobs equally well.
Of course, some of the best camera phones will be great for creating content, but they will never be as good as a real camera. Our guide to the best cameras for Instagram will be a good place to look if that’s your platform of choice. Commercial
