Best Dslr Camera For Beginners

The best DSLRs will continue to offer high-quality images, fast burst speeds, and have the much-loved optical viewfinder.
Mirrorless cameras may be very popular, but the Best Dslr Camera For Beginners will always have a place in the world of photography.

Many of them not only offer high megapixels, ergonomic handling, and features like Wi-Fi connectivity, but are also starting to incorporate popular mirrorless camera technologies. While many manufacturers have devoted most of their energy to developing mirrorless technologies, the classic DSLR remains a favorite of many photographers.

It’s also easy to see why: DSLRs are renowned for their excellent battery life, high-quality optical viewfinders, and comfortable, ergonomic grips. The best DSLRs even include some modern mirrorless features, like 4K video, on-sensor phase detection autofocus, and effects live view modes.

For years, if you wanted the best camera, you needed to invest in a DSLR. Now some of the best mirrorless cameras are being released by camera manufacturers , that is no longer the case. However, that doesn’t mean DSLRs are obsolete.

Take the Nikon D850 or the Canon EOS 5D IV as an example ; both are still popular cameras with professional photographers and people are still buying them new. Last year, Nikon released the Nikon D780 , which is capable of shooting 4K 30p video, and Canon released the Canon EOS 90D in 2019, which incorporated new autofocus technology.

As DSLRs have been around for a while, it’s an affordable way to make the jump from one of the best camera phones or best compact cameras . The Nikon D3500 or Canon EOS Rebel T100 / EOS 4000D are great entry-level cameras, and while they don’t have all the features of the more advanced models, they’ll help you get started taking ‘proper’ photography without breaking the bank.

Advantages of having a professional DSLR

Another great advantage of investing in a DSLR over a mirrorless camera is that you have years of lenses to choose from. Not only are your options better, but you can also buy them cheaper, either second-hand or new.

Whether you want to invest in one of the best 50mm lenses or go for a telephoto zoom, you can bet you’ll save quite a bit on the price of a mirrorless equivalent.

It is wise to think about what kind of photography you want to do and decide on the best camera lenses to buy.

Another reason DSLRs have remained a firm favorite with photographers is that they have an optical viewfinder.

This means that instead of seeing a digitally generated image like you do on a mirrorless camera, you’ll see what you would see if you were looking through the lens through the mirror houses inside.

The quality of the electronic viewfinder has improved tremendously, but for some photographers, it will never surpass the quality of the optical viewfinder.

No matter why you prefer DSLRs over mirrorless cameras , we’ve rounded up the best DSLRs for you to peruse below. We have separated sections on DSLRs for beginners, enthusiasts, and professionals for ease of use.

The Best Dslr Camera For Beginners in 2023

Here we have chosen our favourite entry-level DSLRs. We think these are the best DSLRs for new users, however, we rate them all for different reasons. Some are very affordable, while others have more sophisticated features, so take a look and see which ones seem to be the most suitable for you.

1. Canon EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D

Best Dslr Camera For Beginners

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLR
  • Sensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 24.2 MP
  • Lens mount: Canon EF-S
  • Screen: 3-inch variable-angle tactile screen, 1,040,000 points Max burst
  • speed: 5 fps
  • Max video resolution: 4K
  • User Level: Beginner

Some Canon cameras are cheaper than the EOS Rebel SL3 (known as the 250D in Europe) but lack features and build quality.

You don’t have to pay much more for features like a vari-angle touchscreen, a 24.3-megapixel sensor with Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology that makes autofocus in live mode really fast, and options Guided screencasts to help you learn.

It’s also capable of shooting 4K video, so if you think you might want to give film-making a try, this may be better for you than the Nikon D3500. It’s also a bit cheaper than the Nikon D3500 and works great in live view mode, like a mirrorless camera.

Pros
  • Guided Display Options
  • Pivoting Touchscreen
  • 4K Video
Cons
  • Body may be too small for some

2. Nikon D3500

Best DSLR Budget Camera For Beginners

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLR Sensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 24.2 MP
  • Lens Mount: Nikon F (DX)
  • Pantalla: 3 inches, 921,000 points Max Stream
  • Speed: 5 fps
  • Max Video Resolution: 1080p (Full HD)
  • User Level: beginner

Our long-term favorite for beginners, students, and anyone on a budget.
The Nikon D3500 was released in 2018 and even today, it is a popular camera among budding photographers. We love it so much that we rate it as one of the best Nikon cameras and one of the best cameras for beginners.

This is because it features a handy “Guide” shooting mode that acts as a tutorial and teaches the user how to use the camera through the LCD screen. The D3500 has a 24-megapixel sensor that can deliver super sharp images even with the 18-55mm kit lens, which is pretty good too.

Although the rear screen is fixed and can only shoot up to Full HD and not 4K, the fact that it’s easy to use, cheap, small and light will make it appealing to a beginner.

While it may not have all the features of a mirrorless camera, we can’t help but think that all the thrills and frills are sometimes a bit overkill if you’re just starting out and at this price point, nothing is that great.

Pros
  • Interactive ‘Guide’ shooting mode
  • Solid performance; good handling
Cons
  • Pretty basic controls
  • LCD screen has no touch screen or tilt screen

3. Canon EOS Rebel T100 / EOS 4000D

Best Canon DSLR Camera For Beginners

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLR
  • Sensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 18MP
  • Lens Mount: Canon EF-S
  • Pantalla: 2.7 inches Fixed, 230,000 points Max Stream
  • Speed: 3 fps
  • Max Video Resolution: 1080p (Full HD)
  • User Level: beginner

Canon has deliberately built the EOS Rebel T100 (EOS 4000D) on the cheap, and we think they might have taken cost cutting a fraction too far. It’s a decent camera, but only if you can get it for a lot less money than the Nikon D3500 (above).

The Canon is well suited to beginners, with the same ‘intelligent’ full auto shooting mode and feature guide you’ll find on more expensive Canon cameras. The ‘Quick’ menu is typically intuitive and there are plenty of scene modes as well as more advanced shooting modes.

There’s also a creative auto mode to help you progress from ‘basic zone’ to ‘creative zone’ modes. However, the 18MP image sensor is a very old design and is a bit lacking in megapixels compared to most current DSLRs, and there are more serious cutbacks in other areas.

We wouldn’t expect a touchscreen at this price, but the rear LCD screen is disappointingly small and low-resolution. Ultimately, it’s a very basic camera, but the best DSLR you can get if you just want to dive into the photographic water and spend as little money as possible.

Pros
  • Super cheap to buy
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Poor viewfinder and screen
  • No image stabilizer in the kit lens

4. Canon EOS 90D

Best Affordable DSLR Camera For Beginners

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLRSensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 32.5MP
  • Lens mount: Canon EF-S
  • Screen: 3-inch vari-angle touchscreen, 1,040,000 dots
  • Viewfinder: Pentaprism
  • Max burst speed : 10fps
  • Max video resolution: 4K UHD
  • User Level: Enthusiast

It’s the enthusiast DSLR with everything, including 32.5 megapixels!
This is the best Canon camera for enthusiasts, and it came with groundbreaking specs that no other camera in this category can match and might leave some professional photographers and videographers checking it out too.

The EOS 90D has an incredible 32.5 million pixels, the highest yet for an APS-C camera, though don’t expect to see any obvious, instant gains in image quality.

Instead, enjoy this camera’s 10fps continuous shooting capability and uncropped 4K video capture, a consumer-grade Canon that (finally) doesn’t reduce the angle of view for 4K video.

The extra megapixels take a toll on the EOS 90D’s high ISO/low light performance, but this camera has so many capabilities and potential that we think it’s a dazzlingly good all-rounder for enthusiasts who want to try all facets of photography.

Pros
  • Highest APS-C resolution to date
  • 10fps continuous shooting
  • Uncropped 4K video
Cons
  • Limited buffer capacity
  • Disappointing 18-135mm IS USM lens
  • Losing details by ISO 1600

5. Nikon D7500

Best Nikon DSLR Camera For Beginners

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLR
  • Sensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 20.9 MP
  • Lens mount: Nikon DX
  • Screen: 3.2-inch tilting touchscreen, 922,000 dots
  • Viewfinder: Pentaprism
  • Max burst speed : 8fps
  • Max video resolution: 4K
  • User level: enthusiast

Nikon’s Rugged and Rugged Enthusiast DSLR Cameras Also Have 4K Video
Despite only being released four years ago, we still think the Nikon D7500 deserves to take second place on our list of the best DSLRs for enthusiasts.

It’s a decent all-rounder and Nikon’s equivalent to the Canon EOS 90D. It offers a slightly faster continuous burst shooting speed at 8fps, but lacks the resolution of the 90D. The 51-point autofocus system is reliable and has the ability to shoot 4k video.

It has a tilting rear screen rather than the EOS 90D’s fully articulating design and relies on slower contrast AF in live view mode, but if you’re doing most of your shooting through the viewfinder these will be points little ones.

The D7500 also has a lower resolution (20MP vs. 32.5MP), but in real-world shots, its high-performance sensor delivers images that aren’t far behind the definition Canon delivers. despite the difference in megapixels. Nikon fans who like sports photography may also want to take a look at the Nikon D500 , but this is a much more expensive camera and it’s getting harder to find.

Pros
  • Has the best parts of the D500
  • Lightweight construction
Cons
  • Less robust than the D500
  • Degraded autofocus system

6. Nikon D780

Best Portable DSLR Camera For Beginners

SPECS

  • Type: DSLR
  • Sensor: Full frame
  • Megapixels: 24.4 MP
  • Lens mount: Nikon FX
  • Screen: 3.2-inch tilting screen, 2,359,000 dots
  • Viewfinder: Pentaprism
  • Max burst speed: 7/12fps
  • Max video resolution: 4K UHD
  • User Level: Enthusiast / Professional

The impressive Nikon D780 uses mirrorless AF technology for its live view
The long-awaited update to the much-loved Nikon D750 certainly didn’t disappoint.

The Nikon D780 features the same on-sensor phase-detection autofocus as the Nikon Z6 plus and incorporates mirrorless live view performance. Admittedly, Canon was a bit slow, as Canon has used Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF to do the same thing for years.

Not only does the D780 have advanced live view AF, it also comes with a high-resolution tilting touchscreen, 4K UHD video, dual UHS-II compatible memory card slots, and continuous shooting speeds of up to 12 fps in live view mode.

Combine that with its solid design and comfortable grip and you’ve got a camera that’s an instant classic. The D780, like other Nikon DSLRs, combines thoughtful design with solid construction and very satisfying handling.Advertisement.

Pros
  • Great handling
  • Fast live view AF
  • Uncropped 4K video
Cons
  • Two AF systems to master
  • Live view manualswapping
  • Expensive while new

7. Canon EOS 6D Mark II

Best Upper Range Camera For Beginners

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLR
  • Sensor: Full frame
  • Megapixels: 26.2 MP
  • Lens mount: Canon EF
  • Screen: 3.2-inch vari-angle touchscreen, 1,040,000 dots
  • Viewfinder: Pentaprism
  • Max burst speed: 6.5 fps
  • Max resolution of video: 1080p (Full HD)
  • User level: enthusiast

We like the Nikon D780, but the EOS 6D Mark II has been around longer and has impressive features of its own.

The 26-megapixel sensor is good rather than great, but it has Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, so live view autofocus is very quick and effective. The 45-point viewfinder AF system is also quite good, although the focus points are grouped towards the center of the screen.

The EOS 6D Mark II can capture images at 6.5fps in burst mode and an extremely useful vari-angle touchscreen. It’s been somewhat overshadowed by the newer Canon EOS RP and other Canon mirrorless models, but it’s a solid buy, cheaper than the Nikon D780 (above) and has a fully articulating screen.

PROFESSIONALS

There are several categories of professional DSLRs to consider. Some prefer high-resolution models like the Nikon D850 , which are designed to provide superior image quality above all else.

For those who want a more complete shooting tool, there are also reliable professional off-road models like the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV or the Pentax K-1 Mark II .

Lastly, there are also high-speed sports specialists like the Nikon D6 and Canon EOS-1D X Mark III .

We’ve left these last two off our list because they’re highly specialized, but the models we’ve chosen below are suitable for professionals and are also within the reach of enthusiastic hobbyists. If you want to know more, read our guide to the best professional cameras .

Pros
  • Contains many upgrades
  • Lightweight for a full frame DSLR
Cons
  • More expensive than the original EOS 6D
  • AF points clustered in the center of the frame

8. Nikon D750

Best Nikon Professional DSLR Camera

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLR
  • Sensor: Full frame
  • Megapixels: 45.7 MP
  • Lens mount: Nikon FX
  • Screen: 3.2-inch tilting touchscreen, 2,359,000 dots
  • Viewfinder: Pentaprism
  • Max burst speed: 7fps
  • Max video resolution: 4K
  • User level: Enthusiast / professional

APS-C format DSLRs offer the best compromise between features, quality and price, but professionals will demand a step up in image quality, and that means a full-frame DSLR.

The Nikon D850 is an expensive camera (although prices are coming down), but its capabilities put it in a class of its own. Its 45.7MP resolution is spectacular, it has a 153-point autofocus system, and it can capture images at 7 frames per second, or 9fps with the optional MB-D18 battery grip.

The amazing video features also make it one of the best 4K camera options , though the newer Nikon D780would be a better and cheaper option for DSLR videographers.

The Nikon D850 doesn’t have the on-sensor hybrid autofocus technology of the newer Nikon D780, so its live view autofocus speeds are relatively pedestrian, but that hardly dents the overall appeal of the D850 as possibly the best DSLR of all for professionals. photographers.

It looked spectacular when it first came out in 2017, and it looks just as good today… but cheaper!

Pros
  • Powerful resolving power
  • Professional-quality construction yet still compact
Cons
  • Quite noisy at very high ISO settings
  • Vertical grip is an optional add

9. Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Best High-Resolution Full-Frame DSLR Camera

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLRSensor: Full Frame
  • Megapixels: 30.4MP
  • Lens Mount: Canon EF
  • Screen: 3.2-inch touchscreen, 1,620,000 dots
  • Viewfinder: Pentaprism
  • Max Burst Speed : 7fps
  • Max Video Resolution: 4K
  • Level user: enthusiast / professional

Canon’s full-frame workhorse is an enduring classic and popular with professionals
Released in 2016, the Canon EOS 5D IV continues to be a popular camera among professional photographers.

It’s one of Canon’s all-time best DSLRs if you want a reasonably high megapixel count without sacrificing too much in terms of continuous burst speed and high-quality images. Even at very high ISO settings, you can achieve clean, noise-free images.

Compared to the Nikon D850, it might look pretty average, but for many photographers, 30 megapixels is more than enough resolution and it can shoot 4K video (although the file sizes it generates are huge).

It features Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF, meaning users benefit from fast autofocus performance in both live view and video modes. It is robust, reliable and weather resistant, which is a great advantage for professional photographers. Unfortunately,

Pros
  • 30.4MP is a good compromise
  • Professional performance, manageable size
Cons
  • Fixed touchscreen in place
  • Huge price jump from the EOS 5D Mark III

10. Pentax K-1 Mark II

Best Full-Frame DSLR Camera

No products found.

SPECS

  • Type: DSLR
  • Sensor: Full Frame
  • Megapixels: 36MP
  • Lens Mount: Pentax K
  • Screen: 3-inch 3-way tilt, 1,037,000 dots
  • Viewfinder: Pentaprism
  • Max Burst Speed: 4.4/6.4fps
  • Max Video Resolution : 1080p (Full HD)
  • User Level: Enthusiast / Professional

Pentax makes only one full-frame DSLR, but it packs a number of features
Pentax seems to carry on in its own little bubble, seemingly unaffected by outside events, so the Pentax K-1 Mark II is typically solid but unadventurous in its specs.

It has a rugged, weather-sealed build and a highly effective sensor-shift image stabilization system that works with any attached lens, unlike competing Canon and Nikon DSLRs, which have no in-body stabilization.

Better yet, the 5-axis stabilizer can work in trick modes to provide anti-aliasing correction, an increase in fine detail and Pixel Shift-based texture across multiple exposures, and even an Astrotracer mode to prevent stars from appearing cross the sky.

With a 36MP full-frame image sensor, the K-1 Mark II certainly gives you a lot of megapixels for the money, although the 33-point autofocus system feels dated. and Live View autofocus is poor. However, for DSLR fans who want a big, solid, premium, traditional camera, it still has broad appeal.

Pros
  • Robust construction
  • 5-axis image stabilization
Cons
  • Continuous driving speed for pedestrians
  • Relatively low battery life of 670 shots

So which DSLR should you buy?

If you’re just starting out in photography, investing in one of the best beginner DSLRs is a no-brainer. It will help you learn the basics of photography, get you used to shoot manual, and you won’t have to spend a lot of money. Being able to use interchangeable lenses will take the type of photography you can do to new levels and you’ll have a lot more control over your camera settings.

If you’ve already owned an entry-level DSLR and are looking for something more advanced, an enthusiast or professional DSLR is worth considering. Some of the world’s best professional photographers still trust the Nikon D850 or Canon EOS 5D IV despite the advancement of mirrorless technology.

Which DSLR you choose will come down to a variety of factors, such as your budget, the type of photography you want to do, and what previous experience you have. It’s worth thinking about if you’ll ever want to make the jump to video and in which case it might be worth looking into a DSLR with 4K capabilities. Professional cameras will guarantee image quality, and build quality and are perfect for really advancing your photographic practice.

Whichever you choose, we think you’ll enjoy these rugged and affordable alternatives to mirrorless cameras.
